The use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) holds out the promise to transform chemicals and materials safety assessment by reducing reliance on animal testing and potentially lowers the costs of undertaking those tests. A wide variety of NAMs are being developed for human health and environmental protection, several of which are being supported in their development through European project funding. However, the development of NAMs and their successful uptake and acceptance by regulatory agencies is a global challenge that will require the participation of many different stakeholders. It will require policymakers around the world to accept these test results and for NAMs developers to ensure that their methods are robust and can be harmonised and accepted for regulatory testing. Due to their unique properties, Nano and advanced materials require the updating of test methods to produce the data required by regulators.  
 
NAMs and advanced materials are both challenges that have to be addressed to ensure that regulation can keep pace with innovations and that innovations can meet regulatory requirements at a reasonable cost 
 
This online workshop is brought to you by the Horizon Europe projects CHIASMA, DESIDERATA, iCare, NAMWISE, nanoPASS and RADAR, along with the Malta Initiative. It brings together researchers, regulators, industry and standards experts to help both the development of NAMs and the harmonisation and standardisation of test methods for conventional chemicals, nano and advanced materials.
