TEMASOL Showcases iCARE's Advanced Materials Safety Testing at Brussels Digital Product Passports Conference
TEMASOL presented research on advanced materials safety testing at the DDP4EU conference held at Brussels Albert Borschette Center from June 16-18, 2025.
Elise Morel from TEMASOL presented "The iCare Project and Its Contribution to Product Life Cycle Information" with a focus on safety testing of advanced materials. The poster highlighted how the Horizon Europe iCARE project addresses critical challenges in testing materials across different product lifecycle stages.
The research demonstrated innovative methodologies for generating representative samples from prototype products including car tires, concrete, battery casings, printed inks, and storage tanks. Out of 35 samples tested, 14 successfully met requirements for neurotoxic potential analysis, including 6 pristine graphene 2D materials.
The project employs an integrated testing approach using human and fish cell lines alongside invertebrate models to address regulatory endpoints across EU regulations including REACH, CLP, and Battery Regulation. This work directly supports the development of digital product passports by providing essential safety data for advanced materials throughout their lifecycles.
The presentation emphasized how iCARE's validated assays will contribute to hazard classification and environmental impact assessments, supporting Europe's transition to sustainable and safe advanced materials.
